An October 18, 2012 announcement at the State of Georgia Office of the Governor website has advised the State of Georgia is restoring $125,000.00 to the budget of the Secretary of State in order to keep the Georgia Archives open to the public through June 30, 2013.

The Georgia Archives will maintain its current access hours.

Effective July 1, 2013, it is planned to transfer the Georgia Archives to the University System of Georgia if approved by the General Assembly of the State of Georgia.
